Fairlie Riggers -Our Story
John McColgan - Master Rigger - began an apprenticeship in 1979 and completed his training in 1983.
John worked on various projects for the Royal Navy while employed with BAE Systems based in Glasgow. His role was to manufacture rigging warrants which included guard wires, flight deck nets, lifelines, mooring ropes, and bollard strops, just a small selection of items being manufactured at the time for the Type 22/23 Frigates and Type 45 Destroyers among others.
A move into the marine industry in the mid-eighties allowed John to become one of a very small group of qualified Master Riggers. In the late nineties, Fairlie Riggers was born when he opened his own workshop. Fairlie Riggers now has a wide customer base, owners of traditional and modern yachts and motorsailers.
